Our Plan
Queer Concordia is here for the community. Our limited funds mean we can hardly achieve everything we would like to and essentially act like a club with a larger budget. This increase enables us to become a real and functioning charitable organization. This increase would allow us to pursue official charity status meaning we would no longer have to rely solely on fee levy funding moving forwards.
Here is what we plan on providing with this increase, giving back over half of our annual budget.

01
$50,000 Health Equity Fund
As the current insurance policy makes the gender affirmation benefit inaccessible through requiring students to pay upfront for their procedural costs, students are unable to pay for their care. Our fund loans the money interest free for their entitled care and re-circulates the funds once reimbursed. Up to $10,000 per person. Currently the fund sits at $20,000 because of COVID-era surplus budget.
02
Free Weekly Events
As it stands right now this is the furthest we can really do with our association! We intend on making all events free or at cost for limited spaced events. Limited space events like our Queer Prom will become $5, meaning we will take on the cost of the over $12,000 of what the event itself costs to organize.

03
$30,000 Community Fund
We recognize how valuable funding projects can be and we intend on giving back to the community that helps support us. Concordia students will be able to receive up to $3,000 for any project aimed at benefitting the community.
04
$10,00 Artist Bursaries
Art is not done for profit, and we want to be able to support artists at Concordia so they might focus on their craft and contribute something meaningful to the Concordia community and beyond. $10,000 will be allocated for 5 $2,000 bursaries for students enrolled in any undergraduate Fine Arts program at Concordia.

05

Charity Status
A budget of this size will allow us to pursue charity status. This will decrease our reliance on fee levy funding in the future so that we can pursue meaningful programs without impacting students' finances. Our current budget of about $10,00 annually is far too small for what charity status requires.
06
Gender Affirming Supplies
Gaffs, Binders and more will be offered at our office at no cost!

07
Office Hours
We intend on making our office hours available every day of work week. This will allow students to access scanning and printing services, free safe sex supplies and a quiet place to unwind.
08
Queer Political Advocacy
As the world for Queer people becomes increasingly unsafe, we hope to be a beacon of hope not only at Concordia, but for the greater community. We have already engaged in advocacy at a grander scale in regards to gender affirming healthcare, the increase would enable us to advocate as a part of our core programming.

09
Having a Reliable Team
As it stands currently, no one at Queer Concordia is compensated for their work. We are 100% volunteer based which has become unsustainable. The increase would allow us to pay for an employee position, and any other members of our team an honorarium to encourage dedication and prevent burnout.
