Insurance Claim
To: Greenshield Support
Hello,

I am submitting a claim for the Gender Affirmation Benefit plan provided by the People's Corporation. Gender Affirming Care includes: Foundation Benefits and Core benefits.
My claim is for Electrolysis hair removal which was $xx.00 and falls under the Core/Foundation Benefits.
(to include as you will: This benefit does not require a registered medical practitioner to be performed.)
My receipt and proof of payment are attached. Please inform me of any additional required information for my claim today. (to include as you will: My Gender Dysphoria diagnosis is already on file and I am eligible for this care.)
Thank you,

Gender Affirmation Benefit Complaint
To: StudentCare Support
Hello,
I am wirting today to inform StudentCare that the GreenShield+ portal for the Gender Affirmation Benefit has not worked for months. I am comletely unable to submit claims online. I can only access my claims history through circumventing the broken online portal with the mobile app.

This is very unacceptable and I expect a follow-up from support as this has been a known issue to StudentCare for a long time, almost as if StudentCare does not want people using their entitled insurance, as the information on this page explicitly states to submit claims using the GreenShield+ online portal as the primary option. (insert image attachment). Emailing GreenShield support every time I have a claim to submit is not an acceptable solution.
Please rectify this issue

Insurance Fund Request
To: CSU Executives & Councilors
Hello,
I am emailing you today to ask for your support in funding Queer Concordia's Gender Affirming Insurance Fund.

StudentCare's Gender Affirmation remains incredibly out of reach for me because of the requirement to pay upfront for all services. Some gender affirming procedures cost more than $20,000, and I don't know of any students who have that type of money laying around.

CSU's failure to negotiate the contract with StudentCare means that most people I know, myself included, have never bothered trying to use the insurance prior to Queer Concordia's program. The fact of the matter is they are the only ones trying to alleviate the situation that trans students face.

Their program is also incredibly smart being in the form of interest free loans since it will allow the funds to re-circulate indefinitely throughout the Concordia Community. There is no risk involved as people sign legal contracts as well. However their loans only go up to $2,000 which is not enough money for any life saving surgical intervention. While our coverage only covers a measly $10,000 lifetime, other insurers like SunLife Insurance covers up to $50,000 in lifetime coverage.

Queer Concordia only covers what they can and what is included in the insurance plan since 100% of the costs get reimbursed by GreenShield. However it's still not enough. $2,000 is a drop in the bucket of what transitioning costs and facing discrimination through the banking system means few in the trans community can even obtain predatory loans that have massive interest. Queer Concordia's program is incredibly forgiving and life saving. It is a shame you have not supported the work they aim to achieve.

In this upcoming election, do not expect the Queer community to be supportive of any CSU action until these issues are resolved. Such easy support requires little aside from financial support so loans might at least cover the full insurance benefits.
